MAKING SENSE OF THE OUTPUT

Below is a screenshot of a one-way cross for an Apricot.

In the screenshot above, planting a Prickly Pineapple seed (Harvested Plant) next to a Honey Lemon seed (Adjacent Plant) will yield an Apricot seed when you harvest the Prickly Pineapple plant. One-way crosses are mostly obsolete (with a few exceptions) and you should use a two-way cross alternative instead.

Keep in mind, the first Prickly Pineapple seed you plant in a bed will not have anything to cross with (since there would be no Honey Lemon seed planted). In this situation you should plant the Honey Lemon seed first which ensures the first Prickly Pineapple seed planted will have something to cross with and also maximizes your cross chance.

Below is a screenshot of a two-way cross for an Apricot.

If you see arrows pointing both directions, it means either seed can be planted and/or harvested to obtain the specified seed. In this case, planting a Dzemael Tomato seed next to a Honey Lemon seed (or vice-versa) will yield an Apricot Kernel when you harvest either the Dzemael Tomato or the Honey Lemon.

As of Patch 2.3 every cross can produce different seeds if the breed was successful. For example, if you're trying to grow a Minion you have a % chance to obtain the minion seed but you also have a % chance to obtain a completely different type of seed. This is one of new changes from Patch 2.3 which add multiple crosses to the gardening system (and more headaches for your developer!).

Definitions of each column:

Harvested Plant: This is the seed you should harvest to obtain the specified cross.

Adjacent Plant: This is the seed next to the harvested plant. This is the seed needed to initiate a cross between two seeds.

Grow Time: This is how long (in Earth Days) the seed will take to grow from seed to harvest. The grow times do not take into account for fertilizing. They represent the actual grow time without fertilizing. It is possible to cut the grow time in half if you fertilize every Earth hour.

Crop Yield: The number of crops yielded based on the soil type used. Order is:

G1-3 La Noscean & Thanalan / G1 Shroud / G2 Shroud / G3 Shroud.

Seed Yield: The number of seeds yieled based on the soil type used. Order is:

G1-3 La Noscean & Thanalan / G1 Shroud / G2 Shroud / G3 Shroud.

Alt. Cross: Many crosses have the potential to produce two different types of seeds. If a cross is known to produce another seed it will be shown here with a link to the respective seed.

Efficiency: This is how efficient a cross is (it is NOT a percentage). The higher the value the more efficient. This is explained in detail below.


THE EFFICIENCY SYSTEM

The Efficiency System is a scale that determines the cheapest, quickest and most reliable way to obtain a cross for a specified seed. Each cross takes into account the Availability and Cost of each seed as well as the Grow Time of each seed and whether or not it is a Two Way cross or produces alternate seeds. Keep in mind, these are NOT percentages.

Each cross has an Efficiency value along with a colored icon next to it. The closer the Efficiency value is to 100 the more efficient the cross. The cost of each seed was determined from the Leviathan server, but should be generally the same across all servers, however, this will of course lead to some inaccuracies in the output so be sure to check current Market Board prices before committing.

An explanation of the icons and weight categories is listed below:

Most efficient; use any (preferably the highest value)
Can become costly; use if no green available
Very expensive & time consuming; avoid at all costs

Availability

Abundant (Tier 1 Seeds & Grade 1 & 2 Nodes)
Normal (Tier 2 Seeds & Grade 3 Nodes)
Rare (Tier 3 Seeds)

Cost

Cheap (< 20,000 gil)
Average (Between 20,000 & 50,000 gil)
Expensive (> 50,000 gil)

Grow Time

If a cross is one-way it only takes into account the Harvested Seed's grow time. If a cross is two-way it takes the average grow time of both seeds.

Two Way Crosses

If a cross is a Two Way cross, it is preferable over a one-way cross and therefore increases the overall efficiency

Alternate Crosses

It is preferable to use a cross that does not produce alternate seeds. So if a cross only produces one seed this will raise the efficiency of the cross.
